This PhD course in Earth, Life and Environmental Sciences - STVA at the University of Bologna (39th cycle) with a grant funded by CNR-ISMAR, focuses on the Pliocene-Quaternary study of two geologically different Italian continental margins (active margin and passive margin) located in the Ionian Sea basin, using a multiscale and multiproxy approach. The two continental margins studied are located offshore Crotone (active margin) and offshore Gallipoli (passive margin). The project is structured by undertaking reconstructions of the seismo-stratigraphic framework and sedimentological, biostratigraphic and geochemical analyses on sediment cores in order to reconstruct the evolution and architecture of the two margins and to outline any similarities, differences and peculiarities of two margins belonging to the same basin.
