EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Enrolled in the first year of a PhD (39°cicle; from 01/11/2023 until today) at the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Science at the University of Bologna with a grant funded by CNR-ISMAR. Graduated with a Master’s degree (01/10/2019 – 31/03/2023) in Geological Sciences and Technologies (Class LM-74) at the University of Milano-Bicocca. During the specialisation in Marine Geology, specific skills were acquired by choosing courses aimed at the processing and interpretation of geophysical data, but also transversal skills in the areas of statistical and computer management (ArcGIS) of both geological and satellite data. The master's thesis entitled ‘Tectonics and Seismostratigraphic Structure of the Apulian Plateau off S. Maria di Leuca (Northern Ionian Margin)’ initially allowed the calibration of several reflection seismic profiles with 7 well logs and subsequently the reconstruction of the environments and depositional processes, as well as the tectonic evolution, within the Pliocene-Quaternary sedimentary succession. Also at the University of Milano-Bicocca graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Geological Sciences and Technologies (01/10/2016 – 27/03/2019; Class L-34). During the three-year course in Geology, skills and knowledge were learnt basic knowledge in rock and mineral recognition, geological surveying, structural and technical geology. In addition, skills in scientific research and analysis were acquired. The three-year thesis entitled ‘Seismostratigraphic characterisation of the Messinian discord along the south-eastern Ionian margin’ provided an initial approach to the use of a dataset consisting of seismic and bathymetric data at different resolutions. From 01/09/2010 – 08/07/2015 attendance at a high school with a Diploma at Liceo Ettore Majorana in Desio (MB), Italy.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- From 18/06/2023 to 31/10/2023 a contract as a research fellow at CNR-ISMAR allowed me to focus into morphobathymetric and stratigraphic analysis of the Late Quaternary succession of the North Adriatic Sea using high-resolution bathymetric and CHIRP data for the SPIN project. The job aim was the recognition of seabed structures related to possible gas emissions and their correlation with anthropogenic and/or natural activity.
- The opportunity to complete an Internship in Total Energies in Pau, France (02/09/2021 – 02/02/2022) enabled me to carry out a statistical-geological analysis of carbonate samples subjected to LMI (Liquid Metal Injection) using imaging and statistical software. The goal of the project was to study microporosity and permeability and a final comparison with a mercury technique.
- From 01/06/2019 to 01/07/2019 as a student trainee at the University of Milano-Bicocca, I dealt with the interpretation of data acquired with sub-bottom profiler technology using Petrel and ArcGIS software for the study of bioconstructions (coralligenous) in the Southern Adriatic Sea.
CONFERENCES AND SUMMER SCHOOLS:
- Poster presentation at the Annual meeting TSG (Tectonic Studies Group) in Leeds, England from 10/01/2023 to 12/01/2023. Title of the poster: "A deep study of the tectonic deformation structures along the Apulian margin offshore S.Maria di Leuca - South Italy".
- Participation to Santorini Summer School (Greece) with topic: “Bridging the gap between the land and the sea in a virtual environment for innovative teaching and community involvement in the science of marine and coastal geohazards”.
OCEANOGRAPHIC CRUISES:
- 28/11/2023 – 09/12/2023: participation in the 2nd leg of the Pioneer oceanographic cruise (Ionian Sea) with CNR ISMAR & other institutes on board the Gaia Blu R/V. During the oceanographic cruise, which took place in the Ionian Sea, both geophysical and geological data were acquired with box-corer and gravity/piston-corer sampling.
PERSONAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCES:
Excellent interpersonal skills acquired in various multidisciplinary contexts in relation to activities carried out both during and after university. Formative experiences of courses both in Italy and especially abroad during Internship and Summer Schools have allowed me to interface with different professionals from different cultures and countries, in the geological/environmental field and especially in the marine field.
Good time management and work organisation skills.
Good skills and understanding of geological/geophysical survey techniques applied to the marine environment and analysis of data collected from different sources. Recently acquired initial skills in ship navigation and sampling techniques.
- Computer skills and competences: Mastery of the Office package (Word Excel Power Point), Windows.
- ESRI ArcGIS, ESA-SNAP, GeoSuite AllWorks, Petrel - Schlumberger Software (skills acquired during university).
- Basic Matlab and Python (self-taught knowledge acquired from online courses).
