INTERNSHIPS & JOB PLACEMENT

The professional figure of the Medical Biotechnologist is not only of recent institution but unfortunately shares all its activity sectors with other degrees consolidated for years (Biology, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, etc.). This leads to considerable competition in job placement. Furthermore, there is no valid professional or associative support today that can usefully support those who graduate in Medical Biotechnology to enter the world of work.

Several questions crowd the mind as soon as you leave university: how do you deal with the national and international biomedical research world: universities, hospitals research institutes, industries, nonprofits? What opportunities exist outside of scientific research? To what activities do I feel most inclined? What individual and objective requirements will affect my choices? To what extent can I coordinate my work and career expectations with family needs? Should I enroll in a master’s degree, or in a Doctorate? In Italy or abroad? And so on...

Already when choosing a thesis internship or during its course, you should ask yourself these questions and try to direct yourself towards an activity that is as much in line as possible with your future expectations. It is clear that the more you do a job for which you are suited, the greater the expected satisfactions will be.

It is to elaborate on these points with students that the School of Medical Biotechnology has a dedicated figure, the Career Placement Tutor, to whom the undergraduate or recent graduate can turn. This is entirely discretionary and optional. It is carried out through confidential conversations, addressing or informational only, which aim to help those who are graduating in the evaluation of existing internships and work scenarios, which should not be suffered passively, but approached according to one's aptitudes and needs.

The Tutor's office is located on the first floor, wing D, of building 11 (“Vecchia Clinica Medica”) in the Policlinico S. Orsola (see map). The conversation can be scheduled via email to prof. Pasquale Chieco (pasquale.chieco@unibo.it).
