Associate Professor at the University of Bologna since 2024, he conducts research in the field of general psychology. His research interests focus particularly on chronopsychology, the relationship between sleep and memory, time perception, and number representation. He is currently focusing his research on the relationship between circadian rhythms, sleep timing, time perception, and mindfulness.
Education:
He graduated in General and Experimental Psychology in 2003 from the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Bologna and earned a PhD in General and Clinical Psychology in 2008 from the Renzo Canestrari Department of Psychology at the University of Bologna. Since 2006, he has passed the state exam and is registered with the Emilia-Romagna Order of Psychologists.
Academic Career:
From 2008 to 2012, he held a research fellowship at the Renzo Canestrari Department of Psychology at the University of Bologna. From 2012 to 2014, he was a permanent researcher for PSIC-01/A (formerly M-PSI/01, General Psychology) at the Department of Psychology of the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli (formerly Second University of Naples). After obtaining his habilitation as a second-level professor in 2014, he was appointed Associate Professor in the same department on November 1, 2014. As of October 1, 2024, he is an Associate Professor at the University of Bologna.
Teaching Activities:
From 2012 to 2024, he consistently taught various courses in undergraduate programs (Psychological Sciences and Techniques) and master's degrees (Applied Psychology and Psychology of Cognitive Processes) offered by the Department of Psychology at the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli. He also taught modules for the Doctorate in Mind Sciences in the Doctoral School of Human and Social Sciences at the same department. Currently, he teaches Ergonomics (module 2) and the internal TPV (6 ECTS) for the master's program in Applied Cognitive Psychology, General Psychology for the bachelor's degree in Childhood Education Services, Dysfunctional Cognitive Processes (module 1) for the master's degree in Design and Management of Educational Interventions in Social Disadvantage, and the AFP (Work Contexts of Psychologists), Psychological Area (C2 - module 10), 10 ECTS (C2 - module 2) for the bachelor's degree in Psychological Sciences and Techniques.
Scientific Activities:
At the national level, he has served as an external reviewer for awarding a one-year research grant in Cognitive Neurosciences at the University of Florence, a postdoctoral research grant at the University of Eastern Piedmont, the Young Researchers' project at the University of Parma, and the Rita Levi Montalcini program for young researchers. He was also an external evaluator for research products in the 2015-19 VQR. From 2013 to 2024, he received Research and Reward Funds from the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli. Internationally, he has served as an examiner and evaluator for a research project for the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR). In 2018, he won a 12-month research grant at the Strukturbereich Kognitionswissenschaften of the University of Potsdam in Germany.
He has participated in or been a member of the Chronolab Laboratory and the Marino Bosinelli Sleep and Dream Psychophysiology Laboratory at the Renzo Canestrari Department of Psychology at the University of Bologna. At the Department of Psychology at the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, he participated in or was a member of the Stress and Workplace Well-Being Laboratory and the Gambling Laboratory. Internationally, he has participated in or been a member of the Instituto de Neurociencias at the University of Barcelona (UBNEURO), the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology in Barcelona (Spain), the Grounded Cognition Lab at the Department of Experimental Psychology, Faculty of Psychology, University of Granada (Spain), and the Centre for Behaviour and Evolution at the School of Psychology, Newcastle University (United Kingdom).
He is a member of the A.I.P. ONIRI (Sleep, Rhythms, and Biopsychosocial Well-Being) working group, the Register of Expert Peer Reviewers for Italian Scientific Evaluation (REPRISE), the Italian Sleep Medicine Association (A.I.M.S.), and the Italian Association of Psychology (A.I.P.), in the Experimental Psychology section. From 2005 to 2013, he was a member of the Italian Society for Sleep Research (S.I.R.S.). Since 2020, he has been a member of the International Time Perspectives Network (ITPN) and since 2023, of the International Society for the Study of Individual Differences (ISSID). In addition to serving as a referee for several international journals, he has been a guest editor for Timing & Time Perception (2019), International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (Global Health section; 2021/2022), and Brain Sciences (Behavioral Neuroscience section; 2021/2022). Since 2021, he has been a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and Brain Sciences. Finally, since 2022, he has served as Review Editor for Addictive Behaviors, Sleep, Behavior and Mental Health, and Consciousness Research for Frontiers in Psychology.
Institutional Activities and Academic Roles:
From 2005 to 2007, he was the doctoral representative for the PhD in General and Clinical Psychology on the Doctoral College and the Council of the Renzo Canestrari Department of Psychology at the University of Bologna. From 2015 to 2019, he was a member of the Research Area Committee (C.A.R.), CUN area 11, for the Department of Psychology at the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli for VQR-2. From 2016 to 2019, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Department of Psychology at the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli as a representative of second-level professors. From 2018 to 2021, he was the coordinator of the bachelor's degree program in Psychological Sciences and Techniques (CdL L-24) at the Department of Psychology at the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli. From 2019 to 2024, he was a member (and secretary) of the Steering Committee on behalf of the Director of the Department of Psychology at the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli. Since 2022, he has been a member of the Ethics Committee of the Department of Psychology at the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli.
