Curriculum vitae

2022 - today: PhD Student in Health and Technology Program at O.U. of Microbiology - The Great Romagna Area Hub Laboratory

The PhD Program focuses on the implementation and automiation of laboratory technologies and workflow for a rapid diagnosis of bloodstream infections and antibiotic resistance detection. My research activity also includes Illumina and Nanopore Next-Generation Sequencing for bacterial genomes (whole genome and 16S target sequencing), mycobacteria, yeasts, and viruses performed from primary samples and isolates. I acquired skills on genomes assembly, analsyis, metagenomics and phylogenetics.

2022: Master Degree in Medical Biotechnology (LM-9) at University of Bologna

Master Thesis on SARS-CoV-2 genome analysis "Comparative analysis of mutation in SARS-CoV-2 strain by whole genome next generation sequencing"

2019: Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences (L-13) at University of Florence

Research activity:

05/2022 - 10/2022: Researcher at O.U. of Microbiology - The Great Romagna Area Hub Laboratory

The research project included cells culture and molecular assays for respiratory viruses detection.

03/2021 - 03/2022: Internship at O.U. of Microbiology - The Great Romagna Area Hub Laboratory

Sequencing and analysis of biological samples through Whole Genome Next Generation Sequencing with the purpose of classifying viruses into lineages or sub-lineages, with a focus on screening and monitoring SARS-CoV-2 infection and reinfection. The study of the epidemiology of Covid-19 was prioritized to identify mutations in the viral genome that might be relevant to Public Health.

01/2019 - 07/2019: Internship at Microbiology Laboratory - University of Florence

The project was proposed for the restoration and maintenance of historic and monumental surfaces in the city of Florence. Organization of bacterial cultures and serial tests to identify a natural biocide against environmental bacteria and fungi. Morphological analysis, extraction and PCR methods, sequencing to classify colonies under study.

Thesis co-tutoring:

- Bachelor Degree: Sampling of hospital surfaces in cases of clusters originating from multi-drug resistant pathogens and main pathways of spread of resistant bacteria in the environment

- Master Degree: Development of an operational protocol for the characterisation of the biliary microbiota in patients with benign and malignant jaundice
