Francesco Lipparini has been PhD student in Architecture and Design Cultures at Università di Bologna since 2022 (XXXVIII cycle). He conducts his research in the field of History of Architecture and Cultural Heritage, dealing with the topic of historic villages, and specifically with strategies of sustainable reuse and cultural regeneration for the villages of Emilia-Romagna.
Education
- He graduated in Building Engineering and Architecture at Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna in 2020 with a thesis in History of Architecture entitled: "History, Architecture and Construction in the Great European Expositions. The Seville Exposition of 1929 and the Morocco Pavilion" carried out at the Universidad de Sevilla, Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación, with Prof. Micaela Antonucci as supervisor.
- In 2021 he obtained his license to practice as a Civil - Environmental Engineer.
- In 2020 he completed "The Architectural Imagination" course, an initiative of the Harvard Graduate School of Design in collaboration with the edX digital platform.
- During his academic career he carried out two study abroad experiences as part of the Erasmus+ program, the first in a.y. 2016 - 2017, at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid), and the second in 2019 - 2020 at the Universidad de Sevilla (Escuela Tecnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación).
Research activitiy

Since January 2025 he has been an independent collaborator of the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna for the project "Developing an Inclusive Process for Communicating Dissonant Heritage”, where he collaborates in organising and conducting interviews with the community on the Dissonant Heritage of Forlì and in particular the mosaic cycle of the former Aeronautical College.

Between September 2024 and march 2025, he is a collaborator in the Cultural Heritage Department of the Emilia-Romagna Region, where he continues research on the topic of villages, particularly focusing on funding lines A and B of the PNRR Villages Plan.

Since 2024 he has been teaching assistant for the course History of Architecture T-1 (93640) for the degree Building Engineering - Architecture.

Between may and June 2024 he was independent collaborator of the Department of architecture for the European project Erasmus+ In-VisiBLe (Inclusive andInnovative learning tool for Visually Impaired and Blind people).
- Since October 2023, he has been a visiting PHD student at the École Nationale Superieure de Architecture de Normandie (ENSA), where he carries out part of his doctoral research on the topic of petites villes normandes, with particular reference to their regeneration and their relationship with the heritage, especially that linked to post-World War II reconstruction.
- Since November 2022 he has been PhD student of the course of Architecture and Design Cultures at Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna since 2022 (XXXVIII cycle). He conducts his research in the field of History of Architecture and Cultural Heritage, dealing with the topic of historic villages, and specifically with strategies of adaptive and sustainable reuse and collaborative cultural regeneration
- From June to December 2021 he was an independent collaborator of the Department of Architecture, University of Bologna for the European project Erasmus+ LED2LEAP (Landscape Education for Democracy towards Learning Empowerment Agency Partnership), teaching tutor of the online course and of the Living Lab at Salus Space, Bologna.
Professional activitity
- Since April 2021 he has collaborated with the architecture firm Spazio VV33 architetti (Via Vittorio Veneto 33, Bologna) dealing with architectural design of existing buildings, interior design, construction management, artistic direction.
- From June 2022 to October 2022, he was a site technical collaborator for Costruzioni e Restauri G. Salmistrari (San Marco, 2407, Venice) where he collaborated on the restoration of monumental and civil buildings specialised in palaces, museums, and monuments in the city of Venice, including the Jewish Museum of Venice and the waterproofing works in Piazza San Marco.
- From October 2021 to April 2022 he was an intern in the science unit of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe (Castello, 4930, Venice), where he collaborated in the implementation of the overall program of activities in the field of Science, Environment and Sustainable Development, with particular reference to activities in disaster risk reduction, climate change, water management and scientific and technological innovation as well as in the implementation of the EU H2020 projects GEO4CIVHIC and SHELTER.
- In 2019 he carried out a curricular internship at the Real Estate area of Nomisma (Strada Maggiore 44, Bologna). He worked on research activities for spatial analysis, market analysis, structural analysis of the built environment and distribution of new functions, stakeholder consultation.

- Since 2023 he has been author and speaker of the cultural divulgation podcast: Vitamina C - Integratori di Cultura
- in 2023 and 2024 he worked with La Biennale di Venezia as assistant for the Venice International Film Festival, within the cinema ticket office.
