Fabio Tosi completed his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering at the University of Bologna (Italy) in 2014 and his Master's Degree (with honors) in Computer Engineering at the same university in 2017. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Bologna (Italy) in 2021 with the highest evaluation (5.0/5.0), and his thesis was later awarded as the Best Ph.D. Thesis by the Italian Association for Computer Vision Research (CVPL 2022). During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting researcher at the prestigious Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, working with Prof. Andreas Geiger's Autonomous Vision Group in Tübingen, Germany
He is currently Junior Assistant Professor (RTDA) at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DISI), University of Bologna, School of Engineering, where he conducts research in computer vision, deep learning, and 3D sensing. In 2023, he obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Associate Professor in the sector 09/H1 (Information Processing Systems).
His research focuses on developing advanced methods for 3D reconstruction from images, with particular emphasis on stereo and monocular depth estimation, handling challenging scenarios involving non-Lambertian surfaces, and neural scene representation for novel view synthesis.
Dr. Tosi holds multiple editorial roles, most notably as Associate Editor for Pattern Recognition (Elsevier). He currently serves as Associate Editor for the IEEE/RAS International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2025), a premier venue in robotics and intelligent systems.
His research contributions include over 60 publications in top-tier computer vision venues, including IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV), European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV), and IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (TPAMI). Dr. Tosi's work has been recognized with multiple awards, including Best Paper Honorable Mention at 3DV 2021 and Best Poster Award at BMVC 2024.
Dr. Tosi has been consistently recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer at premier conferences including CVPR, ICCV, and ECCV, placing him in the top 2% of reviewers worldwide. He actively contributes to the scientific community through the organization of workshops and tutorials at major conferences, including CVPR, ECCV, and ICCV.
He has secured research funding as Principal Investigator and is co-inventor on five patent applications in depth estimation technologies. Dr. Tosi maintains strong collaborations with leading academic institutions and industry partners worldwide, including Google, Huawei, ETH Zürich, and the Max Planck Institute.
