My scholarly pursuits are primarily focused on the intricacies of Classical Chinese, the mechanisms of knowledge transmission in ancient China, the study of early Chinese manuscript sources, and the nuanced strategies employed in translating pre-imperial Chinese texts. The pedagogical approach I have developed has been systematically codified in a series of educational tools, notably the "Grammar of Classical Chinese Language" (Milan, Hoepli, 2020) and the "Course in Classical and Literary Chinese" (Milan, Hoepli, 2022). These works elucidate the fundamental grammatical structures of Classical Chinese, predicated on the recognition of "meanings" as "relationships" that bind diverse elements within sentences. Syntactic analysis serves as the foundation for a comprehensive investigation of primary sources, both manuscript and printed. This investigation synthesises translation theory, philology, palaeography, codicology, and hermeneutics, thereby underscoring the efficacy of a multidisciplinary approach in the study of ancient Chinese texts. This methodology not only illuminates the linguistic complexities of Classical Chinese but also provides profound insights into the cultural and intellectual milieu of ancient China. By interweaving various disciplines, we can unravel the intricate tapestry of meanings embedded in these venerable texts, offering a more nuanced understanding of China's rich literary and philosophical heritage.
