EDUCATION
Secondary School: diploma of scientific
studies in July 1995
University: graduated in Medicine and Surgery
with a first-class honours degree at the University of Bologna in
March 2001 with the research entitled “Low recurrence rate of
hepatocellular carcinoma after liver transplantation: better
patient selection or lower immunosuppression?” published in
Transplantation 2002 Dec 27;74(12):1746-51; (Impact Factor =
3.568)
Specialization: first-class honours degree in
General Surgery at the University of Bologna in 2007
Current position: surgeon and associate professor at the General Surgical Unit of Morgagni - Pierantoni Hospital; Department
of Medical and Surgical Sciences – DIMEC, University of Bologna, Italy. Attained the qualification from ASN for Full Professor.
PROFESSIONAL CURRICULUM
From November 2001 to November 2007 he was resident in General
Surgery at the Department of Surgery and Transplantation of the
University of Bologna; during that period he was trained in General
Surgery and took part to the hepato-biliary surgery, liver, kidney
and multi-visceral transplantation activity.
From November 2005 to November 2007 he was also resident at the
Emergency Surgery Unit of the S.Orsola Hospital, Bologna,
Italy. Dr Cucchetti has a good experience in general surgery
procedures and a wide experience in hepatobiliary surgery resulting
in more than 600 procedures. He personally performed hepatic
resections, liver and kidney transplantation, emergency surgery and
liver and multi-organ procurement procedures, employing all the
known surgical techniques. He has large experience in the clinical
management of patients submitted to hepatic surgery both in the
cirrhotic livers and non-cirrhotic ones.
SCIENTIFIC CURRICULUM
Dr Cucchetti is author or co-author of more than 360 scientific
publications, indexed in the Medline or Embase databases, with
a total Impact Factor of >500 and >100 as first
author. His Hirsch index (h-index) is 67 with Scopus database and 73 with Google Scholar. He has given several oral and poster
presentations at National and International Congresses (ILTS,
AASLD, HPBA, EASL). His main fields of interest are hepatobiliary
surgery and liver transplantation; ultrasound examination,
fibroscan, virtual touch, statistical analysis and meta-analysis
(Cucchetti et al. Anatomic Variations of Intrahepatic Bile
Ducts in a European Series and Meta-analysis of the Literature.

resection versus nonanatomic resection for hepatocellular
carcinoma. Ann Surg Oncol. 2012

hepatocellular carcinoma in cirrhotic patients of the Italian Liver
Cancer population. J Hepatol. 2012 May;56(5):1089-96.) and

hypertension a contraindication to hepatic resection? Ann Surg.
