Short Bio

Alberto Forte is Tourism Geography Adjunct Professor and Research Fellow at the University of Bologna (IT). His experience and expertise span both academic and on field work with research and teaching focusing on tourism management and development in both LDCs and MDCs. His academic career started in 2004 with a PhD on the Urban Geography of change in first generation coastal resorts and a teaching post at the University of Brighton (UK). In South-East Asia, he then undertook teaching and consultancy work in the area of sustainable tourism development and strategic tourism management as part of an International Development Cooperation programme aiming at facilitating the democratic transition of weakening totalitarian states. Driven by interests in evolutionary biology, human development and the marine environment, Forte has considered tourism from a socio-ecological perspective, engaged with Living System Theory and the regenerative development framework. He is currently exploring the potential of Yachting Tourism as a transformative device for social change in the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region as part of the “Back from the Sea” project.
