Zhudaiyi Zhang is a PhD student from the program “Arti, Storia, Società,” who holds a Master’s degree in History from the University of Macau. He is primarily interested in how the localization of the potato (Solanum tuberosum), from the early modern age onwards, interacted with nationalism, colonialism as well as the technologies of cultivation and cooking across East and West. Daiyi pays special attention to how the global knowledge of the potato has been constructed and flowed, tracing its journey from Ulisse Aldrovandi’s garden to its emergence as a local dish on Chinese tables.
