He was born in Mantua in 1937. He graduated in Engineering from the University of Bologna in the year 1960/1961. He was Assistant and then Professor of Applied Mechanics of Machines at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bologna: Extraordinary from November 1, 1973 and Ordinary from November 1, 1976 to October 31, 2009. He was tenured professor from November 1, 2009 to October 31, 2010 and is currently Professor Emeritus of Applied Mechanics of Machines at the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna and Member Emeritus of the Academy of Sciences of the Institute of Bologna.
In recent years, he has been particularly interested in topics related to the history of technology. In 2025 he published the book "A Brief History of Cams and Cam Mechanisms".
