Short Bio

Tristan is a PhD candidate in the University of Bologna Arts Department, working under the supervision of prof. Claudio Bisoni. His doctoral research project explores the unattended virtues of 'bad' transgender cinematic figurations populating Italian genre films throughout the late twentieth century.

In 2016, Tristan graduated from John Cabot University with a BA in Communications and minors in Psychology and Creative Writing. His BA thesis “A Single Man and Death as Salvation: Rethinking Gay Fate in Tom Ford’s Directorial Debut (2009)” focused on the recent developments of the bury your gays narrative trope in mainstream cinema. He then went on to pursue his Film Studies MA (Dist) at King's College London, where he produced the dissertation “Acting Queer: Rhetoric of Deception, Transface Casting, and Authenticity Politics in Cinematic and Televisual Transfeminine Representation (2015-2021)”, aimed at investigating contemporary US casting politics in relation to cultural understandings of transgender embodiment as manufactured and deceptive.
