My main interests concern Landscape Archaeology with a special focus on: water management and hydraulic works in ancient societies; long-temporal socio-environmental interactions; research methodology and documentation of the archaeological record (survey and excavation); archaeological maps; GIS and Remote Sensing; interdisciplinarity (Geography, Anthropology, Ecology).

Main research and projects extend from the Mediterranean (Pantelleria, Italian peninsula) to the Near & Middle East (Ebla, Syria; Karkemish, Turkey; Qadisya and Ninive, Iraq) and Central and Southern Asia (Banbhore, Pakistan; Samarkand/Middle Zeravshan Valley, Uzbekistan; Sarazm-Pendjikent/Upper Zeravshan Vallery, Tadjikistan), covering chiefly extreme or marginal ecological contexts (steppe and deserts).
