Sara Silvestrini is a post-doc researcher at the Department of Cultural Heritage in Ravenna. She is part of the ERC project FIRSTSTEPS - Our first steps to Europe: Pleistocene Homo sapiens dispersals, adaptations and interactions in South-East Europe (Grant agreement ID: 101019659) in which she is enrolled as an archaeozoologist. Her research activities encompass the taxonomic and taphonomic analysis of macromammal remains, as well as the application of advanced palaeoproteomics techniques. In particular, she has specialized in the use of ZooMS (Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry), a methodology that enables the taxonomic identification of bone fragments through collagen examination, and in the analysis of amelogenin, a protein utilized to determine the sex of both human and faunal samples.
