Pier Paolo Giglioli is professor of Sociology of Culture at the
University of Bologna (Department of Communication), where he has
been teaching since 1987 and where he was Director of the Institute
of Communication (1988-1990) and Dean of the Communication
curriculum (2001-2003). Previously he taught in the
Universities of Urbino and Milan.
He taught or lectured in several foreign universities, among which
the University of Washington, the University of California
(Berkeley and San Diego), Brown University, Swarthmore College, the
University of Edinburgh, the University of Exeter, Paris
VIII, the University of Joensuu (Finland) and the European
University Institute (Florence).
He was a Fellow of the American Council of Learned Societies and a
Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute.
He is or was member of the editoriale boards of several journals,
among which Rassegna Italiana di Sociologia, the Journal
of Modern Italian Studies and Cultural Sociology. He is the founder was the editor of Etnografia e ricerca qualitativa.
He is interested in social theory and sociology of culture.
