Full Professor of Economic Statistics at the University of Bologna since 2024. Between 2010 and 2024 he worked at the World Bank where he was Senior Economist for the Middle East and North Africa region and Lead Economist in the "Fragility, Conflict, and Violence" department where he directed the Global Research Program on Forced Migration, a partnership between the World Bank and the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Between 2000 and 2010 he was Visiting Professor at Bocconi University of Milan and the University of Turin. Between 1995 and 2010 he served as advisor to Governments, the European Union and the United Nations, on Social Protection reforms. He is the author of five books and over 50 articles in refereed journals and edited books covering Public, Development and Labor Economics themes.
