Dissertation topics suggested by the teacher.
I welcome students from various disciplines, including music, mathematics and physics, interested in working in physics-based modelling of musical instruments or acoustics spaces. The topics are heavily based on numerical analysis and simulation, so the students are expected to have an understanding of finite differences, finite volumes or finite elements applied to the solution of typical acoustic wave equations or discrete-time models for virtual-analog applications.
Previous experience in real-time audio coding using e.g. JUCE is desirable.
Possible research topics include:
- simulation of nonlinear acoustic wave equations in brass instruments and woodwinds using a modal approach
- measurement and simulation of acoustic spaces with long decay times using a modal estimation algorithm
- measurement and simulation of the acoustic guitar
