Michele D'Ostuni is currently employed at DISTAL, University of Bologna. He obtained his PhD in Architectural Technology with a thesis studying the integration of soilless food production systems within the building environment. He then specialised in Building-intrgrated agriculture (BIA), which combines the principles of architectural and spatial design with issues related to the transformation of urban food systems. He currently lectures in the Interior Architecture - Environmental Quality and Urban Agriculture courses at the University of Bologna. Since 2021, he has also been collaborating with the ISIA University of Florence in training in product design for vertical farming.
