Matteo Romandini (PhD) is a Senior Assistant Professor (RTT Tenure Track) in Zoology and Anthropology - Scientific Discipline Sector 05/BIOS-03/B, specializing in zooarchaeology, bioarchaeology, and taphonomy.
Trained at the University of Ferrara, he has been part of the Department of Cultural Heritage at the University of Bologna since 2017. Over 15 years of postdoctoral experience, he has participated and/or coordinated research projects focused on human settlement in Italy during the Paleolithic period.
The main topics of his research include the bio-cultural relationship between Neanderthals and Homo sapiens, as well as the subsistence strategies of Upper Paleolithic hunter-gatherers during the late glacial and early Holocene periods. He has directed archaeological and scientific research for many years at Paleolithic sites such as Riparo del Broion, Buso Doppio del Broion, Col della Stria (VI), and Grotta del Rio Secco (PN). Since 2013, he has been the scientific director and curator of the Archaeological and Naturalistic Museum of the Grotta di Pradis (Clauzetto, PN).
