Matteo Merlo

Matteo is a fourth-year PhD student in Accounting. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Business Administration from University of Roma Tre, and a Master's degree in Economics and Accounting from University of Bologna. Before joining the PhD program, he worked as trainee chartered accountant and statutory auditor.

He is broadly interested in empirical financial accounting research. His current work focuses on the real effects of activist investors, private firms, lending decisions and earnings management.

Furthermore, Matteo serves also as a teaching assistant for the Accounting and Financial Statement, Financial Analysis, and Business Valuation courses at the University of Bologna.

Since February 2023, he organizes the reading group in Accounting, Banking and Finance at the Department of Management, which takes place monthly and involves doctoral students, junior and senior faculties.
