Topics proposed:
- Application of the CRISPR/Cas9 system on human cells with trisomy 21 to perform deletion of regions of chromosome 21
- Functional characterization of a human chromosome 21 region involved in Down syndrome manifestation (HR-DSCR, highly restricted Down syndrome critical region);
- Gene expression analysis of genes involved in monocarbon metabolism in trisomy 21 and euploid samples;
- One-carbon cycle metabolite dosages in biological samples from people with Down syndrome and controls.
Theses can be carried out by students attending Master's degree programs in Biology, Biotechnology, and Medicine.
