The research activities carried out at the DICAM of the University of Bologna are focused on the following themes:
- Environmental impact of a road surface: the research is based on the effective possibility of replacing completely virgin materials from non-renewable resources with waste/recovery products and using them in the restoration of road pavements after maintenance works to the underlying infrastructure.
- Survey methodologies and analysis of the functional characteristics of road surfaces: the research concerns the investigation of the use of new technologies to analyze the texture characteristics of different types of road pavement.
- Study of driver-vehicle-road interaction: the research is aimed at the study of road safety in post-accident cases, with particular attention to the performance of the road surface and the consequences on road users. Skid resistance has a fundamental role for the safety and well-being of road users, in fact to a high degree of friction in the tire-pavement contact corresponds the possibility for vehicles to change their traction during the motion.
