🔴 Research interests

His research interests lie on the border between the Sociology of Economics and Labour and the Sociology of Territory. Specifically, his research focuses on the studies of occupational trajectories and life path, inequalities and social exclusion at local and national levels. He works with a variety of populations: different social groups such as the youth, the elderly, people with disabilities, immigrant workers and professional groups (communities and social workers, healthcare workers, researchers and fishers). In his research, he looks at the articulation of multilevel mechanisms contributing on the (re)production of inequalities. He studies how the ongoing socioeconomic transformations and their manifestations (e.g. economic crisis or pandemics) influence people’s life cycles and experiences. He also looks at the dynamics of different actors (institutions, communities, civic actors, etc.) working to improve living conditions and to tackle inequalities and exclusion. He mobilises a framework of social innovation combing the sociological approach of life course with an organisational and territorial approach. In order to do so, he moves directly from people / groups’ trajectories, living conditions and needs.

🔴 Supervision and teaching experiences

He supervised or co-supervised more than 10 Master, 4 PhD, 5 Post-doc students, and 30 research assistants and interns. Since 2012, he has taught at the Bachelor, Master, and PhD levels. He also been a visiting professor at the Universidad Lasalle Bogota, PUC Rio de J. and others.

🔴 Scientific excellence and production

  • 2018: awarded a Canada Research Chair and received an “Excellence in research” prize from the national network Université du Québec for the category: young scholars in human and social sciences
  • Since 2013: publication of around 40 peer-reviewed articles, 8 special issues in peer-reviewed journals, 20 book chapters, and other contributions (reports, knowledge transfer, etc.), 2 edited books and 1 monography. He has acquired independent research support for numerous projects from national and international funding, either as Principal investigator [PI], Co-Investigator [CI], or as co-applicants [CA]

🔴 Other academic activities and responsabilities

Over the last 10 years, he has contributed to at least 60 national and international conferences, and has been an invited speaker in at least 50 scientific events held in Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, China (UN Habitat), Italy, and France. He has also often been invited by national and regional institutions (Québec Ministry of immigration, Municipality of Montreal etc.), as well as community actors and practitioners.

Since March 2020, he is co-editor of the Canadian Journal of Non-profit and Social Economy Research and member of the editing committee of Papers in Political Economy. He also regularly acts as a reviewer for several national and international journals, juries, and prize committees.
