Morphometric investigations in gastrointestinal tract samples of fish species of commercial interest such as sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and sea bream (Sparus aurata) fed with different experimental diets. The samples, once processed and subjected to histological and immunohistochemical methods, are observed and evaluated using the optical microscope and relative software. Specifically, these methods are used for the evaluation of the absorbent surface of the intestine and the gastric area occupied by immunoreactive oxyntopeptic cells. These methods allow the evaluation of interesting morphological parameters of the gastrointestinal tract which, in turn, are directly related to the different zootechnical performances obtained, in the experimental breeding, from the administration of the different experimental diets.
