Associate Professor. The research interests are aimed in particular at the study of the mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases.
He is currently Head of the Animal Welfare Service for the University of Bologna.
Education
Graduated in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bologna in 2004, in 2005 he obtained the abilitation for Veterinary profession. In 2009 the PhD in Biotechnological Applications in Neuromorphophysiology and in 2013 he completed the II level MASTER in: “Quality Systems: GxP & ISO” at the University "Cattolica del Sacro Cuore", Rome.
In 2017 he complete the specialization master in Laboratory Animal Science and Medicine at the University of Milan
Academic career
From 2021 he is Associate Professor, Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences of the University of Bologna, Alma Mater Studiorum.
In 2018 he became senior Researcher in the VET/01 disciplinary sector, at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences of the University of Bologna.
In 2017 he obtained the National Scientific Abilitation for Associate Professor, Sector 07 / H1 Veterinary Anatomy and Physiology, Call D.D. 1532/2016.
Professional experience
Since 2004 he has collaborated and collaborates with various public and private research entities in the scientific field of of animal modeling improvement (laboratory animals), in the study of degenerative diseases of the nervous system with specific reference to chronic pain and dementia Alzheimer's, preclinical testing activities to be carried out by integrating animal behavioral study approaches. He has studied technology as pulsed laser and capacitive-resistive diathermy in use in human and veterinary medicine, to verify the role of ECM as a possible biological effector for the conveyance of the physical energies connected to them.
Until 2019 he held the role of Veterinarian Designated (D.Lgs. 26/2014) and member of Animal Welfare Bodies for the evaluation of experimental protocols involving the use of animals, for different private research institutes.
Teaching
Since 2018, he has been teaching in Systematic and Comparative Veterinary Anatomy I, part of the integrated course of Veterinary Histology, Anatomy and Zoology. Course of Master's Degree in Veterinary Medicine
Since 2020 he has been teaching in the module of Animal Models of Neurological Diseases and Neurobiology. Course of Master's Degree in Animal Biotechnology
Since 2020 he also carries out contract teaching activities for the School of Specialization in Science and Medicine of Laboratory Animals of the Federico II University of Naples and for various courses on animal welfare used for scientific purposes.
Scientific activity
He has participated in numerous national and international research programs and is currently involved in scientific projects aimed at phenotyping new transgenic mouse models for the study of rare diseases, or looking for possible mechanisms of comorbidity between neurodegenerative diseases and chronic inflammation. He is also involved in projects for the realization and testing of multifunctional biomaterials for the self-repair of tissues and organs, and projects aimed at reducing, or replacing, in vivo models and proposing new screening paradigms, including the validation of 3D stem cell cultures. embryonic (rat) as a replacement for GLP teratogenic studies, or the study of a prototype of a cellular platform for high content screening aimed at "drug-repositioning".
