Curriculum vitae

Associate Professor at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, University of Bologna. He conducts his research in the area of the history of political thought.

His research interests focus on French liberalism in the post-revolutionary period (particularly Benjamin Constant and Madame de Staël); Machiavellism and the fortunes of Machiavelli's works in France and Italy in the nineteenth century; post-World War II Italian political thought (particularly Norberto Bobbio); contemporary expressions of Machiavellism in mass culture.

Education

Graduated in European Studies in 2008 from the University of Turin, in March 2012 he received a PhD degree in “Political Studies. History and Theory” at the Department of Political Studies, University of Turin.

In 2017, he earned a second PhD in “Political Science. Political Thought and Political Communication” at the University of Genoa and the University of Paris VIII.

Academic career

He was a research fellow at the Department of Cultures, Politics and Society, University of Turin (2016-2019).

In August 2018, he obtained the National Scientific Habilitation as Associate Professor.

From November 2019 to November 2022, he was a Researcher (RTDB) in the disciplinary field SPS/02, History of Political Thought, at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, University of Bologna.

Teaching activities

He was an adjunct lecturer in “History of Political Thought” in 2014/2015 at the Department of Law and “Laboratory: initiation to research in political science” at the Department of Political Cultures and Society, University of Turin from 2017 to 2019.

He was a teaching tutor in the “History of Political Thought” and "History of Political and Social Institutions” online courses within the ‘Science of Administration (online)’ course of the Department of Law, University of Turin from 2015 to 2019.

Since 2019, he has been a lecturer of “History of Political Doctrines” for the Bachelor of Arts in “Political, Social and International Sciences” at the University of Bologna. He also teaches “Democracy and Social Justice” as part of the master's degree “Local and Global Development.”

Scientific activity

She directs with Cristina Cassina (Univ. of Pisa) and Federico Trocini (Univ. of Bergamo) the project “Donne e Pensiero politico" (Women and Political Thought), promoted by the Fondazione di Studi storici "Gaetano Salvemini" in Turin, which has given rise to a YouTube channel [https://www.youtube.com/@DoPP2022/videos] of video lectures dedicated to figures of female political thinkers from the 18th century to the present day, an editorial series published by Carocci [https://www.carocci.it/serie/donne-e-pensiero-politico] and a series of Spanish-language volumes [https://altamarea.es/categoria-producto/mujeres-y-pensamiento-politico/] published by Altamarea Ediciones.

He has participated in various national and international research groups including: LER, Laboratoire d'études romanes (No. EA 4385) of the Université de Paris 8, Vincennes-Saint-Denis; Network Research Project (2007-2013) “Machiavellism and Machiavellisms in the Western Political Tradition (16th-20th centuries)” coordinated by A. Enzo Baldini.

He has spent numerous research periods in France. He was Visiting Professor at Istanbul Şehir Üniversitesi and at the “Bilim ve Sanat Vakfı” Foundation for Sciences and Arts in Istanbul in May 2019; he was Visiting Professor at Université Paris 8 - Vincennes-Saint-Denis in November 2023 and October 2024

He is a referee of several Italian journals in the field of History of Political Doctrines.

Membership in scientific and editorial committees

Since 2024, he has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal “History of Political Thought.”

Since 2023, he has been among the founding members and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Gaetano Salvemini Foundation for Historical Studies in Turin.

Since 2019 he is a member of the Scientific Committee of Ars RoSA - Center for Studies on Reason of State and Democracy of the Department of Human Sciences of the University “Federico II” of Naples.

Since 2018, he has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal “De Europa. European and Global Studies Journal.”

Since 2018, he has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal “Suite française”.

From 2018 to 2023 he is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal “History of Political Thought.”

Since 2016 he has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal “Political Thought.”

Since 2014, he has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the Center for European Studies “TO-EU” of the Department of Cultures, Politics and Society of the University of Turin.
