Francesco Casales is research fellow at the University of Turinwhere he works on the project Digital history e fact checking: il metodo storico e la comunicazione della storia nell'era dell'innovazione tecnologica. He obtained his PhD in contemporary history in 2022 from the Universities of Pavia and Paris 8 Vincennes/Saint Denis with a thesis on the history of Italian colonialism in the fascist era, with a focus on its cultural and social dimension. From March 2023 to August 2024 he has been research fellow at the University of Naples Federico II, where he worked on the relationship between espionage, novel and security in 19th-century Europe. He recently published the book Raccontare l'Oltremare. Storia del romanzo coloniale italiano (1913-1943), Le Monnier, 2023.
