In 2004 he graduated in Biological Sciences at the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna with a score of 102/110 discussing a thesis entitled "Lipid constituents of microalgal cultures and possible role of fatty acids as molecular markers in the characterization of mucilages" Supervisor Distinguished Prof. Gianni Trigari.
