Short Bio

Evangeline Scarpulla holds a BA in Comparative Literature from King's College London (2021) and an MSc in Comparative Literature from the University of Edinburgh (2022). She is currently a research fellow (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions - Doctoral Network (MSCA DN) Ref. EP/X02556X/1) enrolled at the University of Bologna as a PhD scholar in Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures - Diversity and Inclusion, EDGES curriculum (XXXIX cycle).

Evangeline's  research interests include speculative fiction, feminist literary theory, children's and YA fiction, and decolonizing the canon. Under the supervision of Dr. Gilberta Golinelli, her PhD thesis will investigate the emerging relationship between ‘speculative coming-of-age fiction’ and the production of narratives of cross-cultural connection, intersectionality, and activism written by contemporary transnational women-identifying authors in Europe. Her research will emphasize the (trans)formative potential of this genre and the impact these texts can have on young people and their sense of self and community.
