Ernesto Salzano is a Full Professor of Chemical Plant Design at the University of Bologna, where he serves as the Director of Studies for Chemical and Process Engineering. Additionally, he is an academic board member for the Ph.D. program in Future Earth, Climate Change, and Societal Challenge.
He is Chair of the European Research Area, ERA Chair of the Center of Excellence for Safety Research (CESAR), VSB Ostrava, Czech Republic and italian delegate for European Federation of Chemical Engineering, WP Electrostatics.
Prior to his academic career, Salzano worked as a Researcher at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), where he was responsible for the explosion laboratory.
His primary research interests revolve around deflagrative and detonative combustion phenomena, runaway reactions, process safety, and the risks posed to critical infrastructures by external events such as natural disasters, domino effects, and security threats.
Salzano's extensive scientific endeavours are evidenced by his publication record, comprising over 250 articles in scientific journals and books.
