Full professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics until Oct. 2016, retired for age limits, now Professor Emeritus. I still teach Astronomical Optics, as academic expert, in the Astronomy course and Optical Design as a curricular internship. I have been Director of the Astronomy Department and Dean of the Science Faculty. Through extended observing campaigns, I studied the properties of superclusters of galaxies and quasars. I have been involved in the definition and planning of major observing facilities, as Italian representative in the ESO Council and as chair of the Science Advisory Committee of the Large Binocular Telescope.
