I am a river ecologist with over 30 years of experience (PhD in Ecology - 1993). From 1996 continuously until today I have held the role of adjunct professor at the University of Bologna. My activities have focused on different components of freshwater ecosystems: the fluvial community of fluvial macroinvertebrates; monitoring of surface waters; the buffer function of the riparian strips in removing the diffuse pollution of nitrates; river restoration. Currently I work on biodiversity and monitoring of both riparian vegetation and Trichoptera, and analysis of ecosystem services at the basin level. Unlike the economy and society, fields in which it is necessary to make substantial changes compared to the past, ecology remains the basis on which the very concept of sustainable development is based. For this reason, since 2016 my mission has also focused on the dissemination of ecological sciences and the concepts related to it outside the academic field by undertaking and developing Citizen Science paths with citizens and local authorities
