Bartolo Giuseppe Dimattia began his studies at the G. Briganti Agricultural Institute in Matera. In 2014, he was awarded an ER.GO scholarship for deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds to study at the University of Bologna, where he served as the student representative for the STAG program from 2018 to 2020. He graduated with honors in 2020 with in Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, completing a thesis in applied genetics.
He pursued further studies, winning scholarships in agronomy, applied genetics, and soil physics. In 2022, he joined the WISHROOTS consortium on soil health in wheat breeding and received a PhD scholarship at Bologna, becoming a tutor and founding Radici Cosmiche at the Collegio Superiore.
Bartolo conducted research visits at the Catholic University of Leuven, METER Group, Forschungszentrum Jülich and Donald Danforth Plant Science Center. His research specializes in rhizosphere dynamics and wheat root systems. Bartolo is a member of the International Society of Root Research, a fellow of 1B, and, since 2024, a member of the International Exchange Committee at the Collegio Superiore.
