Since 2024, he has been the PI of the project "HeliTARGET: new generation PNAs to target the major human pathogen Helicobacter pylori and other bacterial pathogens." Funded by Fondazione del Monte, the project focuses on developing and applying synthetic nucleic acids (PNAs) to silence the essential transcriptional regulators HP1043 of H. pylori and its homolog CosR of C. jejuni. The aim is to block the expression of these regulators to investigate their role in bacterial physiology and assess the potential use of these compounds as new antibacterial agents.
Since 2022, he has been a team member of the PRIN project "NORA: a sequencing-based approach to define NucleOid stRuctural Alterations in Helicobacter pylori dormancy." (20223BM3NP, PI: Prof. Davide Roncarati). The project focuses on bacterial chromosome organization and the development of the 4f-SAMMYseq technique in bacteria.
