New MOOC – Data for Public Policy and Social Choices
Dear colleagues, students, all
I am excited to share with you the MOOC "Data for Public Policy and Social Choices," produced as part of the Edvance project – Digital Education Hub per la Cultura Digitale Avanzata, now available online!
This is an introductory-level course, designed for beginners who are interested in using data analysis to better understand social behaviors and inform public policy decisions.
📌 About the Course:
This MOOC provides a basic introduction to the concepts of correlation and causality in data analysis, with a specific focus on issues such as tax evasion, corruption, and fraud. Participants will explore how experimental and empirical microeconomics can be used to analyze these topics and develop policy strategies.
📅 Course Structure:
🔹 Week 1 – Why do people pay taxes?
🔹 Week 2 – Why do people engage in corruption?
🔹 Week 3 – Do leaders influence ethical behaviors?
🔹 Week 4 – Synthetic Control Methods, Machine Learning, and DiD Methodology
🗣 Language:
All course materials, including video lectures and texts, are entirely in English.
💡 Beginner-friendly & Open to everyone – No prerequisites required!
The course is fully online and free of charge.
It is open to anyone, whether they are students, professionals, or lifelong learners, with no prior knowledge or skills required—just a passion for data analysis and policy-making!
🎓 Certification:
Participants who complete the course will be awarded an Open Badge from BESTR . This serves as a formal recognition of their learning achievements. The badge can be shared on LinkedIn, included in CVs and digital portfolios, or used as evidence of acquired knowledge in applications for academic and professional opportunities.
