Alessandro Guidotti received the Dr. Ing. Degree
(magna cum laude) in Telecommunications Engineering and the
Ph. D. in Electronics, Computer Science, and Telecommunications
from the University of Bologna (Italy) in 2008 and 2012,
respectively. In 2012 he joined the Department of Electrical,
Electronic, and Information Engineering (DEI) at the University
of Bologna, where he is currently Professor of "Telecommunication Software and Laboratory" for the First cycle degree programme (L) in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering.
The Ph. D., from 2008 to 2012, was funded by Fondazione Ugo
Bordoni (Technical Body of the Italian Administration) and focused
on "Cognitive Radios for Spectrum Management." During this period,
he was representative for the Italian Administration within
CEPT SE-43 working group on Cognitive Radios. He also attended to
CEPT CPG PT-D meetings. During 2011, he was also visiting
researcher at SUPELEC (Paris, France) working on "Stochastic
Geometry: Modeling of the Interference of Distributed Wireless
Networks and its Application to the Analysis and Design of
Cognitive Radio Networks, Network-Coded Cooperative Systems, and
MIMO Transceivers." During 2010 and 2011, he was also teaching
assistant of "Electromagnetic Propagation" within the
Telecommunications Engineering course at the University of
Bologna.
From 2012 to 2014, he was Post-Doctoral Researcher within DEI at
the University of Bologna. During 2012, he was visiting researcher
at SUPELEC (Paris, France) working on "Stochastic Geometry for
Interference Characterization and Performance Analysis in
Heterogeneous Wireless Networks."
From 2014 to 2021, he was Research Associate within DEI at the University of
Bologna.
From 2021, he is a Senior Researcher within Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni (CNIT), working at the Research Unit of the University of Bologna, DEI department.
Dr. Guidotti participates in National and International
research projects on satellite and terrestrial mobile
communication systems, and contributes to the preparation of
several EC and ESA project proposals. His
research interests are in the area of wireless communication
systems, Satellite Communications and Non-Terrestrial Networks, system architectures, 5G/6G standardisation, and MIMO via NTN.
From 2024, he is the CNIT representative within the ESA NTN Forum and from 2025 he is the Chairman of the SatCom Working Group of Networld Europe.
He is a member of the Technical Panel on Glue Technologies for Space Systems Technical Panel (IEEE Aerospace & Electronic Systems Society) and member of the Editorial Board of the Aerial and Space Networks journal (Frontiers). Since 2016, he is TPC and Publication Co-Chair of the IEEE ASMS/SPSC Conference.
Dr. Guidotti authored and co-authored more than 60 scientific
contributions in conference and journal papers or book chapters. He is a co-author of the Wiley-IEEE Press book on "5G Non-Terrestrial Networks: Technologies, Standards, and System Design." He
was winner of the Lions Club Prize for the Best Master Degree
Thesis in 2008, and co-recipient of the
2014 Newcom# Best Paper Award and of the
2011 World University Network CogCom paper Award.
Dr. Guidotti serves as Technical Programme Committee member for
major conferences and is IEEE member since 2004. He was Lead Guest Editor of the Special Issue on the Wiley International Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking on "Integrated Satellite-Terrestrial Networks in Future Wireless Systems."
