Current position
I am Professor of Political Science at the Departiment
of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Bologna. I have previously been a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for the Study of Political Change (CIRCaP) of the University of Siena (2004-2006) and an Assistant and then Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Bologna (2006-2021).
Education
I hold a laurea (BA) from the University of Florence (faculty of
Political Sciences “Cesare Alfieri”), and a PhD in Comparative and
European Politics from the University of Siena.
Research
My main research interests are in the territorial aspects of politcal competition, in party politics, political élites and legislative behaviour.
I have been a visiting scholar at the Centre de Politique
Comparée, Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium), at the Center
for the Study of Democracy, University of California, Irvine and at
the Centro de Estudios Avanzados en Ciencias Sociales, Fundación
Juan March, Madrid.
Editorial activity
I am a member of the editorial board of the yearbook Politica in
Italia/Italian Politics, that I coordinated from 2012 to 2018. I am a member of the scientific committee
and a regular collaborator of the Istituto Carlo Cattaneo. From 2019 to 2022 I have been the co-editor (with Martin Bull) of the Italian Political Science Review. I am a referee for noumerous international journals and publishing houses.
Recent Publications
My recent publications include Beppe Grillo's Five Star Movement. Organisation, Communication and Ideology (Routledge, 2015) and Politica in Italia. I fatti dell'anno e le interpretazioni. Edizione 2018 (Il Mulino, 2018).
My work has also been published in journals like Government & Opposition, The Journal of Legislative Studies, Party Politics, Regional & Federal Studies, Rivista Italiana di Scienza Politica, South European Society and Politics, West European Politics.
