Soroosh Kamali is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Bologna (DICAM), specializing in Earthquake Engineering and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Shiraz University of Technology, Iran, in 2023, where he pioneered the Spectral Optimization-based Modal Identification (SOMI) method for Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) and applied machine learning techniques to structural model updating and health monitoring.
From 2020 to 2022, alongside his academic research, Soroosh participated in the industrial sector, designing steel and reinforced concrete structures and contributing to seismic hazard assessments.
In 2022, Soroosh joined the University of Bologna, where he took a leading role in research and development for SHM, collaborating on projects monitoring three major railway bridges in Italy. His research interests span optimization- and AI-based OMA, deterministic and probabilistic model updating, environmental and operational variability (EOV) compensation, and data-driven approaches to structural health.
