Access requirements
To enrol in the post-graduate Master's degree programme in Interpreting candidates must possess a basic grounding in the culture and literature of their chosen languages, as well as communication skills to use in inter-linguistic and intercultural interactions from and into Italian and at least two foreign languages. Candidates are required to have a C1 level of competence in these languages which, according to the common European framework of reference for languages, entails the ability to understand a wide range of long and complex oral texts, to understand their implicit meaning, to express oneself fluently and spontaneously, to use the language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and work purposes, to produce clear, articulate, cohesive and well-structured oral texts on complex topics.

Candidates should have a degree in one of the following classes, or possess a foreign qualification which is recognised as equivalent:
according to Law 270:
- class L-11: Modern Languages and Cultures
- class L-12: Language Mediation
according to Law 509/99:
- class 3: Science of Language Mediation
- class 11: Modern Languages and Cultures
Previous four-year degrees in:
- Translation and Interpreting
- Translator and Interpreter
- Modern foreign languages and literatures.
If the candidate does not possess any of the above qualifications, admission to the Master's degree programme requires a preliminary assessment of the candidate's curriculum by a Committee. If the Committee judges the graduate's background knowledge to be compatible, the candidate is deemed suitable and allowed to take the admission test.
The number of students that can enrol in the Master's degree programme is determined each year on the basis of the resources available. The number of available places and the details of the admission test, including the pass mark, are publishedeach year in a Call for applications.
The graduate's background knowledge is deemed sufficient when the pass mark set forth in the Call for applications is attained in the admission test.
The only candidates exempted from the admission test are those already enrolled in the post-graduate degree programme in Conference Interpreting, class 39/S, activated by the SSLMIT as per Law 509/99, who possess the curriculum requirements set by the revised degree programme and intend to exercise their right to opt for the corresponding post-graduate Master's degree programme in Interpreting, class LM-94 (activated as per Law 270/04).
