Building Engineering-Architecture
FUNCTIONIN A PROFESSIONAL CONTEXT:
This degree programme produces professionalsable to coordinate the process chain in the construction sector in a broadsense and covers the management of resources, context specification, the protection ofpersons and property, and lifestyle improvement. Within this framework, there is a specific focus onthemes which combine perspectives on sustainable development with technologicalinnovation as a driver of active processes in society and the economy, on the regeneration ofurban areas and the re-qualification of buildings, and on the management of complex processes.
Graduates of this discipline areeligible for roles in the field of architectural and engineering design and for technical-managerial roleswith the ability to coordinate professional, business and public structures. Graduates of the secondcycle degree/two year master in Building Engineering-Architecture:
- Design and manage the urbanregeneration of real estate in accordance with the principles of environmental and socialsustainability, in pursuit of circular economy objectives
- Design new complex buildingsystems and manage the re-qualification of existing ones through the integration of technological, systemic, and structural security components, with a specific focus on innovation, functional andsocial requirements, and the figurative, aesthetic and environmental aspects of the project
- Record, analyse and evaluate theexisting building heritage and design recovery projects in all its aspects, including the restoration (architectural, functional, structural and systemic)of buildings and monumental complexes within the limits permitted by the lawsin force in Italy and in other European countries
- Recognise the historical andenvironmental features of the territory and formulate plans and designs that protect and enhance thesame
- Participate, also in acoordinating role, in interdisciplinary working groups on complex urban projects, with a sound knowledge notonly of the technical aspects but also of the economic feasibility and environmentalcompatibility of the project
- Have knowledge of and apply innovativeconstruction materials and components
- Manage the construction process(construction management), the services (facility management), the implementation andauthorisation process of a construction project (project management) and the creation ofvalue from the management of immovable property (asset management)
- Manage the advanced modelling anddigital integration of processes with a particular focus on the integration of architecturalrequirements, construction methods, physical-environmental requirements and structural safety, also through the use of Building Information Modelling -BIM
- Manage and coordinate theengineering phases of the project and complex technical- administrative procedures necessaryfor their implementation, including the issue of safety, also through advanced systems such asBIM.
COMPETENCIESASSOCIATED TO THE FUNCTION:
The competencies associated with thesecond cycle degree/two year master in Building Engineering-Architecture relateto specialist roles that are also cross-functional and managerial in scope. This professional figure hasa distinctive role in the formulation of complex design solutions in the field of architecture and buildingengineering, controlling the entire process from the design phase to the execution of the works, their maintenance and enhancement. The competencies associated with the roleinclude therefore: - Analytical skills, in order to formulate complex technologicalsolutions of a multidisciplinary nature - Cultural knowledge, in order tomanage the processes related to technological development in the field of newconstructions - Design training aimed at connecting the specialist components, from the urban dimension to the building scale - The ability to use advancedinformation systems to formulate and represent complex problems of both atheoretical and applied nature.
CAREEROPPORTUNITIES:
On passing the State exam, the Buildingand Anchitectural Engineer is qualified to perform all professional activities set outrespectively in the Register of Engineers, section A, in the civil/environmental sector, and inthe Register of Architects, section A in the Architectural sector.
The attitude developed by the graduatein Building Engineering-Architecture with regard to the formulation of solutions and theoptimisation of construction systems and processes provides an essential basis on which toeffectively tackle complex issues of a technical, organisational and regulatory nature in the followingroles:
- engineering-architecturalconsultant with specific competence in modelling the behaviour of construction, installation andstructural systems of the building structures and in assessing the environmental quality requirementsof urban real estate
- engineering-architectural designerof construction, installation and structural systems and components
- engineering-architectural projectmanager with specialist competencies (project manager/design manager/facility manager)
- engineering-architectural managerof public administration processes in planning offices, one-stop construction desks, one-stopdesks for production activities, the environment, public works and heritage.
This qualification also providesaccess to the PhD Programme, the Specialization Programme and to the Professional Master'sProgramme (2nd Level).
