LINGUISTICS CONSULTANT IN CULTURAL TOURISM
Function in a professional context:
Linguistics consultants in cultural tourism provide support and linguistic-cultural advice in their field of knowledge, at international conferences and trade fairs, as well as in cultural and tourism events and projects with an international dimension.
In particular, linguistics consultants in cultural tourism:
- Provide linguistic assistance for businesses and institutions in various fields (e.g. trade fairs, congresses, tourism);
- Manage the linguistic and cultural aspects to support the planning and organisation of international meetings, congresses and trade fairs, tourism and cultural events and projects;
- Support activities for the international promotion of the local territory;
- Perform research and produce information materials in foreign languages (for editorial works, catalogues, brochures, websites, etc.);
- Draft information contents for the promotion of initiatives, events and businesses on social network in a foreign language;
- May act as facilitator during commercial and business meetings;
- Within the tourism activities of public institutions and private businesses, they design itineraries, cooperate in the organisation of cultural and recreational events, etc.
- With additional training, as required by law, they may work as tour guide.
Competencies associated to the function:
The following competencies are required to work as linguistic consultant in cultural tourism:
- Strong command of at least two foreign languages in addition to Italian, to work in heterogeneous and multicultural contexts, orally and in writing;
- Knowledge of the customs and traditions of different territorial cultures;
- Strong knowledge of the artistic, historical and literary dimensions of the referred contexts;
- Ability to consult and summarise different types of written and visual texts;
- Ability to draft information materials used for hospitality activities in tourism, trade fairs and/or congresses;
- Ability to design and process contents for web communication;
- Knowledge of marketing and communication for social networks;
- Ability to efficiently manage and positively interact with groups of people;
- Ability to cooperate with other professional figures using the cultural and linguistic skills acquired.

ASSISTANT TRANSLATOR AND REVISER OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEXTS
Function in a professional context:
Assistant translators and revisers of foreign language texts work mainly in the editorial and services sectors, applying linguistic knowledge to the production and critical revision of texts produced originally in a foreign language, also in audiovisual and multimedia formats.
In particular assistant translators and revisers of foreign language texts:
- Check the equivalence of the translated text with the original, perform editing tasks to harmonise the language and style and check the coherence of contents and formal congruity;
- Translate information and cultural texts into their mother tongue;
- Cooperate with other specialist professional figures in bibliographical and sitographic research for the purposes of linguistic transposition;

Competencies associated to the function:
The following competencies are required to work as assistant translator and reviser of foreign language texts:
- Solid command of at least two foreign languages in addition to Italian;
- Knowledge of the linguistic registers used for oral and written productions in foreign languages;
- Ability to place texts in appropriate typological and cultural contexts;
- Ability to use computer tools to draft texts, repertories,
tables, excel files, etc.;
- Ability to use databases to retrieve information for electronic text processing and consulting various reference materials;
- Multimedia skills.

SOCIO-CULTURAL LINGUISTIC MEDIATOR
Function in a professional context:
Socio-cultural linguistic mediators facilitate institutional, administrative, socio-educational and cultural relations, providing linguistic support.
They:
- Collaborate with the company management to maintain relations abroad, making phone calls, drafting correspondence and documents in foreign languages;
- Perform research to acquire various types of information materials in foreign languages from different sources (paper and web-based information, databases, etc.) to provide services for foreign citizens;
- Produce information materials on local services in a foreign language for foreign citizens (public relations offices, libraries, etc.);
- Perform research to identify cultural and training programmes and projects funded by the European Community;
- Collaborate in the implementation of projects for cultural mediation and training for adults and children (e.g. in libraries);
- Collaborate in the management of intercultural education projects;
- Collaborate in the design of contents for web communication;
- Collaborate in the organisation and coordination of cultural exchanges as part of initiatives promoted by public (including supranational) administrations, institutions and other bodies.

The following competencies are required to work as socio-cultural linguistic mediator:
- Oral and written command of two foreign languages in addition to Italian;
- Strong cultural knowledge of different contexts;
- Written and oral communication skills applied to heterogeneous and multicultural contexts;
- Ability to retrieve various types of information materials, consult databases, etc.;
- Ability to write reports, summaries, etc. and collaborate in the drafting of projects;
- Ability to work in intercultural contexts and groups and interact positively with other people.
