The degreeprogramme is based on a rich combination of scientific and educational skillsthat cut across the humanities (history and anthropology), political science, international relations, legal, economic and marine biology disciplines. Thefirst two years of the degree programme are the same for all three pathways. Inthis period, students will progressively tackle themes related to history andculture (from ancient history to the modern age), geography and territory inyear I, while in year II they will look at disciplinary areas with a view toacquiring the necessary conceptual tools to properly interpret the complex andinterdependent issues of the modern age, analysing the diplomatic, economic, social and anthropological aspects of the same.
In parallelto this, during the first two years students will undertake further study oftwo vehicular languages traditionally rooted in the subject area (in additionto English, which will be studied in year I, a second language will be chosenfrom French, German or Spanish in year II), along with Arabic, which isindispensable in the study of certain specific aspects of the course.
Havingacquired the basic knowledge required, in year III the programme offers threedifferent pathways: the first focuses on deepening the students' knowledge ofhistory and the environmental and cultural specificities of the subject area, the second looks at the political and economic relations dimension, while thethird considers the legal aspects, which provides a solid basis for tacklingthe crucial questions of security and the promotion of culture andenvironmental sustainability.
There areseveral objectives:
-acquisition of the ability to analyse and understand the complex levels ofintegration and interdependence of the various social and cultural contexts(religion, politics, kinship, gender, education, modes of thought)
-development of the ability to engage with theoretical and scientific tools andthe “real world” (concrete contexts, situations and issues) in an innovativeway with a continuous focus on the consequences of one's own decisions in anethically and socially responsible manner
- acquisitionof the ability to evaluate and consider a question from multiple points ofview, overcoming stereotypes and ethnocentrisms, and the equally importantcapacity to formulate reliable opinions based on the information available incontexts that are not always easy to read.
Theprogramme also envisages the study of topics related to key aspects of theeconomy, demographics and communication. With regard to the optionalactivities, students will have ample possibility to indicate their interest inthe available course modules, events or internships that are
compatiblewith their degree. The programme concludes with the submission of a thesis onthe topics covered in the course modules
