Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione (knowledge and understanding)
Graduates:
- will possess good knowledge of the evolution of sociology (from its origins to the most recent theoretical, methodological and empirical developments), focusing on cultural and communication issues, political, health and social structures, service and tourism organisations, organisations managing investigation, control and security strategies to prevent and curb crime;
- will understand the basic features of the evolution of sociological thought, political-institutional history and public law, in terms of concepts, theories and key figures;
- will have basic knowledge of criminological sciences and their evolution, with particular focus on security policies;
The above knowledge and understanding are achieved through lectures and self-study of all the course units, in particular those concerning mathematical-statistical and economic, legal, politological, sociological, historical-philosophical, anthropological, historical-geographic, psycho-pedagogic and linguistic disciplinary fields.
Particular explanations on specific subjects or concerning reference texts are offered by each professor during their own office hours.
The professors will be supported by a tutor who can provide additional support to both working students (who cannot regularly attend lessons) through the guided preparation for exams, and to students having difficulties in understanding the subject matter.
The learning outcomes will mainly be assessed through the final exam in each course unit which, as indicated clearly in each programme, involves at least two written assignments during the course and a final oral exam to assess the students' ability to coordinate the various themes studied analytically during the programme, and their learning of parts of the programme which may have not been assessed during the intermediate tests.
Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione (applying knowledge and understanding)
Graduates: will be able to apply the knowledge acquired in laboratory work and/or internship for the valid, correct understanding of the operating mechanisms and transformation dynamics of modern society in its various fields (social, political, cultural). For all learning activities, in particular those concerning mathematical-statistical and economic, legal, politological, sociological, historical-philosophical, anthropological, historical-geographic, psycho-pedagogic and linguistic disciplinary fields, the ability to apply the above knowledge and understanding will be achieved through the critical study of texts proposed for self-study, stimulated by classroom activities, the research of case studies and applications presented by the professors.
The learning outcomes will mainly be assessed through the final exam in each course unit which, as indicated clearly in each programme, involves at least two written assignments during the course and a final oral exam to assess the students' ability to coordinate the various themes studied analytically during the programme, and their learning of parts of the programme which may have not been assessed during the intermediate tests.
For the laboratory course units, the ability to apply the above knowledge and understanding will be achieved through laboratory exercises.
The described learning outcomes will be assessed not only through the final exam in each course unit, the methods of which are indicated clearly in each programme, but also through exercises and group work in the classroom.
Autonomia di giudizio (making judgements)
Graduates:
- will have basic multi-dimensional knowledge of sociological, legal, economic and historical subject areas necessary for a conceptually well-constructed and guided analysis of different social themes;
- will be able to identify, gather and select data and information to support research and analysis and express opinions on specific social and institutional contexts;
- will be able to understand the construction and application processes of social and security policies and the function of the main public and private institutions working in these fields.
Judgement skills are developed in all course units, in particular those concerning mathematical-statistical and economic, legal, politological, sociological, historical-philosophical, anthropological, historical-geographical, psycho-pedagogic and linguistic disciplinary fields, through the active participation in lectures, exercises, seminars organised during the academic year by the Faculty, but also through the activities assigned in preparation for the final examination.
The judgement skills will be assessed during the intermediate and final exams in each course unit; the students' ability to work autonomously and their judgement skills are also assessed during the activities assigned in preparation for the final examination.
Abilità comunicative (communication skills)
Graduates:
- will be able to express opinions concerning the field of study using appropriate concepts and ideas and suitable forms of communication according to the interlocutors;
- will have a strong command of the English language and will be able to read complex texts and hold conversations with specific contents.
Written and oral communication skills are developed in particular during the intermediate written assignments and oral final exam of each course unit, as well as during practical exercises and learning activities which also require the production and oral presentation of reports and written assignments.
The communication skills are also assessed during the preparation and presentation of the final examination.
The English language is learned during lectures and through the active participation of the students in laboratory work in groups of students possessing a similar initial knowledge of the language.
Knowledge of the English language will be assessed through the final examination, which, as indicated clearly in each exam programme, involves at least two written assignments during the course and an oral final exam.
Capacità di apprendimento (learning skills)
Graduates:
- will be able to apply the learning methods developed for updating and further studying the programme contents, also in professional contexts, also in order to embark upon further studies;
Learning skills are acquired throughout the whole study period, using the teaching methods and tools described for other descriptors, which together will allow them to achieve the professional and specific learning outcomes.
Learning skills are assessed continuously during the learning activities, considering that the students have to produce at least two written assignments for each course unit.
