Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student knows the fundamentals of a symbolic and numerical calculation program and uses it to solve simple problems of calculation, linear algebra and mathematical modeling. The student acquires manual skills with measurement instruments and the treatment of errors. Furthermore, he approaches numerical and statistical calculation with professional rigor.
Course contents
Laboratory module
Theory - Introduction to the theory of measurements; propagation of errors; random fluctuations and systematic effects; precision and accuracy; evaluation of the uncertainty of a result; Gaussian distribution; binomial and Poisson distribution; linear correlation.
Acquisition of the basic elements of the MATLAB software tool
Laboratory tests
Various experiences with the use of a symbolic and/or numerical calculation program (MATLAB) to reproduce and solve simple situations in physics and engineering.
Readings/Bibliography
During the course, the material presented will be made available in terms of slides in pdf format

Teaching methods
Traditional lessons with classroom and laboratory exercises.
Laboratory experiences with simulations. Part of the lessons is dedicated to the discussion of questions and exercises to be formalized, represented and solved with the software tool.
Assessment methods
The learning assessment consists of a mandatory oral exam aimed at evaluating the level of knowledge of the subject, including the ability to carry out simple exercises (15 points). The presentations of projects, reports and programs, previously agreed with the teacher, will be discussed during the oral exam (18 points). If the sum of the individual evaluations exceeds 30 points, the candidate will be awarded honors.
Teaching tools
All lessons will be supported by pdf slides downloadable from the Virtuale website
