Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student: - knows the principles that regulate the demand and the supply of culture in the contemporary scenario; - knows the mechanisms of private and public financing of culture; - is able to reconstruct the policies of support for cultural activities.
Course contents
The course investigates how the cultural and creative industries (CCI) work and their capacity to generate economic value for all the stakeholders involved in conceiving, financing, producing, valorizing, releasing, and preserving the cultural goods. The analysis of the CCI business models and organization will be integrated by the analysis of the public policies (at supranational, national, and local level) that regulate and support culture and the companies working in this sector.
The class includes meeting with professionals working in cultural companies or institutions and a group work with final presentations during the final lectures. Student groups will be asked to develop a crowdfunding campaign for a cultural initiative
Students with SLD or temporary or permanent disabilities: it is suggested that they get in touch as soon as possible with the relevant University office (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en) and with the lecturer in order to seek together the most effective strategies for following the lessons and/or preparing for the examination.
Readings/Bibliography
Mandatory readings for attending and non-attending students will be presented by the lecturer at the beginning of the class and published on the Virtuale platform.
Teaching methods
Traditional in-presence lectures supported by slides. In the second part of the course, some special guests will be invited in order to investigate specific topics and key professional roles. Students will be asked to attend a group work (development of a crowdfunding campaign) with in class presentations.
Assessment methods
The exam consists of a written examination with closed-ended questions to assess whether students have acquired the concepts provided by the lecturer during the course and by the study material.
Attending-students have to study: a) slides provided by the lecturer; b) personal notes; c) readings (articles and book chapters) that the lecturer will upload on the Virtuale platform (see “Letture per esame frequentanti”).
Non-attending students have to study: readings (articles and book chapters) that the lecturer will upload on the Virtuale platform (see “Letture per esame non frequentanti”).
It will be assessed as excellent the performance of those students achieving an organic vision of the course contents and the use of a proper specific language. It will be assessed as discrete the performance of those students showing mostly mechanical or mnemonic knowledge of the subject, not articulated synthesis and analysis capabilities, a correct but not always appropriate language, as well as a scholastic study of the discipline. It will be assessed as barely sufficient the performance of those students showing learning gaps and inappropriate language. It will be assessed as insufficient the performance of those students showing learning gaps, inappropriate language, no orientation within the mandatory bibliography and inability to analyse the subject.
To take the examination, students shall register in the list by AlmaEsami service. Non-enrolled students will be excluded from the test. Students are also required to sit the examination with their UniBo credentials and a recognition document.
Students with SLD or temporary or permanent disabilities: it is necessary to contact the relevant University office (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en) with ample time in advance: the office will propose some adjustments, which must in any case be submitted 15 days in advance to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of these in relation to the teaching objectives.
Teaching tools
Lectures will be supported by slides and digital reports. The lecturer will upload these materials on the platform Virtuale at the end of each lecture.
