Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student acquires skills relating to the legal and ethical rules that regulate the function of information and communication in the various areas in which it is expressed.

Course contents

- Constitutional, international and Ue framework of the principles of the freedom of expression.

- Art. 21 of the Constitution. Implicit and explicit limits to the freedom of expression of thought and the regulation of electoral campaigns

- Right to report, criticism, satire

- Journalistm, rights and duties;

- The regulation of online copyright

- Privacy regulation

- Communication and information and public administrations

- The rules of the press and publishing companies

- Public service and commercial broadcasting between national and European rules

- The rules of Internet : in search of a regulatory framework

- Conclusions

Teaching methods

Face-to-face lectures with power point support; critical reading selection of main articles from newspapers and specialized magazines.

Involvement of experts and scholars on specific aspects and through meetings that will be held in class with the professor.

Assessment methods

The exam will be a written exam consisting of 2 open questions on mandatory texts, lasting 90 minutes on the EOL platform.

If the grade obtained is sufficient (+18/30) and the student / student so wishes, she / he can request the integration of the exam with an oral test. The oral exam can be requested by the teacher (and in this case it is mandatory, if the student does not show up it will be as if she had not passed the exam). The oral exam will be referred to the whole program of study.

Erasmus students could make the exam, if they expressly request it, with an oral exam.

The marks are assigned according to the following criteria:

- 30 cum laude: exhaustive and precise answers; in-depth knowledge of the topics faced during the exam; ability to connect between different themes dealt with in the course; maximum knowledge of the law sources of media law; ability to apply the legal and conceptual categories learned to practical cases.

- from 28 to 30: complete answers but with minor errors and inaccuracies; excellent knowledge of the topics covered in the exam; excellent knowledge of the sources of media law; ability to identify current cases corresponding to the contents of the course;

- from 25 to 27: answers of a good level but with some deficiencies; good knowledge of the topics covered in the exam and of the sources of media law.

- from 22 to 25: discreet answers but lacking in useful elements; fair knowledge of the topics addressed during the exam and of the sources of media law.

- from 18 to 21: sufficient answers but lacking relevant elements; sufficient knowledge of the topics addressed during the examination and of the sources of media law.

Teaching tools

Seminars and meetings with experts, power point slides, reporting and sharing of news, jurisprudence and articles on topical and interesting topics related to the course.
