Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student:

• possesses knowledge of the main otorhinolaryngological diseases in both childhood and adulthood;
• understands the otorhinolaryngological alterations occurring in systemic diseases and in the craniofacial region;
• is familiar with the signs, symptoms, and the principles of diagnosis and treatment related to the aforementioned points

Course contents

Anatomy, physiology, and semiotics of the nose and paranasal cavities. Diagnosis and treatment of the main nasal and sinus pathologies.

Anatomy, physiology, and semiotics of the pharynx. Diagnosis and treatment of the main pharyngeal pathologies. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

Anatomy, physiology, and semiotics of the larynx. Diagnosis and treatment of the main laryngeal pathologies. Overview of upper airway dyspnea. Tracheotomy.

Neck swellings. Pathology of the major salivary glands. Neck surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery.

Facial nerve paralysis and facial nerve surgery.
