Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is able to run a basic statistical analysis on different types of data, using the tools described in the next Section.
Course contents
The course is divided into 3 blocks
1) Descriptive statistics
- frequencies, means, variability measures
- evaluation of the association, linear dependence, linear regression
2) Probability
- basic probability theory
- discrete probability distributions
- continuous probability distributions
3) Inference
- point estimation
- confidence intervals
- hypothesis testing

Statistica: metodologie per le scienze economiche e sociali, Simone Borra e Agostino Di Ciaccio. Editore: McGraw-Hill
The book is optional. Any other book dealing with basic statistics may be used.
Teaching methods
Theoretical and practical classes are given in presence by the teacher, with the help of slides and notes.
All course material is available on Virtuale.
Exercises and solutions are also provided for practice.
A tutor is available for questions concerning the exercises.
