Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, the student  acquires knowledge related to the field of diagnostic radiology  and medical radiobiology, with emphasis on radiation protection.

Course contents

Notions of physics of ionizing radiation.

Sources of ionizing radiation and mechanisms of interaction with matter.

Biological effects of ionizing radiation.

Elements of radiation dosimetry.

Basic principles of radiation protection.

Legislation-International and Italian legislation. Radiation protection of workers and the public Radiation protection of the Patient.

Sources of risk and radiation protection measures in the health care environment: radiodiagnostics, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy

Radiological practices requiring special attention: potential and ongoing pregnancy, newborns and infancy

Teaching methods

All course topics will be presented by frontal lessons and studied in depth by open debates

Assessment methods

Written multiple-choice test of 64 questions for the Integrated Course of Public Health, as follows:

 Radiation Protection 8, Hygiene and Infectious Diseases 24 questions, Microbiology 16, Occupational Medicine 8, Forensic Medicine 8.

PowerPoint slides presented by a video-projector.
